West Chicago Community High School Class of 1963

AI: Joke of the Day!

  • You know you grew up in West Chicago in the ’50s when the trains didn’t just wake you up in the morning — they practically tucked you in at night. Half the class slept better to a freight horn than to a lullaby.
  • Back in ’63, the high school cafeteria had two entrée options: “mystery meat” and “mystery meat with gravy.” The gravy didn’t solve the mystery.
  • Remember cruising Main Street? It wasn’t about going anywhere — it was about being seen going nowhere.
  • If you say you never skipped class to watch trains down by the depot, that’s fine. The rest of us will just smile and let you keep your spotless record.
  • The old Turner Junction stories were so good, half of us thought the town’s official motto should’ve been: “West Chicago — where the past is louder than the trains.”
  • You could always tell who had a date on Friday night — they were the ones who actually combed their hair before homeroom.

Betsy Howieson Hart Majsterski Passed Away

We are sorry to hear of the passing of another classmate.  Betsy died on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in Houston,TX, surrounded by loved ones.  Her obituary can be found on the Dettling Funeral Home website.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Betsy's family and friends.
We received the following from Carolyn McGawn Morris on New Years Eve 2025:
Molly Colford Howieson let me know this morning that Betsy Howieson died. I haven’t confirmed it yet, but I believe it was yesterday. I did some Facebook sleuthing and found the following that her sister- Rita - posted (looks like it was posted late last night):
Today, I lost my oldest sister, Elizabeth Ann Howieson Hart Majsterski. When my mother passed away, Betsy was tasked with helping my father with the five youngest in the family. When my father died, she took the three youngest of us under her wing when she was 23 years old and a newlywed. She was stubborn, feisty, smart, and so much more. I loved her so much. My heart aches. From 8 to 4. The two oldest. The two youngest.
