What are We Doing Today?Have you ever wondered what your classmates are doing after all these years?
In July 2026, Karen Allen Ballentine informed us she had joined a quilting club that meets on Saturdays, preventing her from participating in our monthly zoom meetings. Here's what she had to say along with the promised pictures (which we received on September 28). I started quilting at the beginning of Covid when most everything was closed down but the quilt store was open and no masks required. I love making them and give most of them away. One of the quilt guilds I belong to gives quilts to 45+ pre-schoolers for Christmas every year and most of my quilts go to them. I also make them for cancer patients undergoing chemo through the guild I met with today. This guild also gives quilts to a local charity that supports abuse victims. It is so satisfying and fun working with a group of ladies to make and give away quilts to people who need to know that others care.
I might not get it done in time, but our 60th wedding anniversary is on August 5, and I’m making a story quilt out of blocks made for significant moments. I’m still short at least half a dozen blocks.
I’ll round up photos of a couple of my quilts and send them to you. David Maas Passed AwayThis was sent to us by Richard Mann, on 20 September 2026:
We are sorry to hear of the passing of another classmate. David died on Friday, September 18, 2026. His obituary can be found on the Norris-Segert Funeral Home website and on his Bio page. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones. On July 29, 2026, 5 veteran friends participated in Honor Flight Chicago #130. You may recognize 4 of us as your classmates. The 5th gentlemen, Ken Carlson, is a 1963 graduate of Wheaton Community High School and a distant cousin of Larry Stark. If you're a veteran and have not yet been on one of these trips, you really should look into it. You'll be glad you did!
Visiting the Viet Nam Veteran's Memorial topped our to-do list as we remembered our good friend and classmate, Darrell Colford. Visit the A Journey of Honor and Remembrance for the whole story. The Year 2025 Site Review
