Remembering West Chicago Community High School: Commencement
Almost every major event in our lives calls for some amount of planning; even our graduation! Near the end of our senior year, we were given the opportunity to order invitations to our graduation ceremony. This was probably the school's way to avoid over flowing our Commencement Hall or the Bishop Gymnasium, if you prefer. Here's what our invitations looked like:
Back in June of 1963, graduation was probably the most important event in our lives. Some of us were just glad to be out of school, period. Some of us looked forward to college. Some of us looked forward to starting a career in the military or business or construction or manufacturing. Some of us looked forward to getting out of the house and living on our own. Some of us may have been planning to get married and start a family. Whatever your future plans were, graduation meant that our high school lives were ending and the rest of our lives were beginning.
