Remembering St. John the Baptist School

After graduating 27 eighth graders nine classmates came from St. John the Baptist, of these, Georgia Free, Pat Atkinson, Margaret Rainone, Pat Devine, George Lamczyk, Bill Nolan, Larry Stark and Joe Jedlovec graduated with our class. Phyllis Dieter also attended WeGo during our Freshman and Sophomore years.
June 28, 1942 saw the dedication of the first large school building with expansions of 1954 and 1958 paralleling Winfield's growth. Overflow classes had been jointed 5-6, 6-7, 7-8 for years. The 8th grade class of 1957-58 was quartered on the stage in the school's lower level until the last expansion, the southern wing, opened to our classmates the spring of 1958. Our class of 1959 was just that, 8th grade, no combined grades and the second to graduate from the expanded school. |
