Remembering our Junior Class Trip - Washington D. C.
In his email, Dick asked, "Did you notice the bus driver is the same on both ends? They use a panoramic camera and as soon as he could he ducked down ran behind everyone and reappeared at the other end."
Unfortunately, the left side of this picture only shows the driver's left shoulder. Too bad he didn't squeeze in just a little closer....! |
The following story was received from Terry Duber on Friday, August 16, 2019:
Jerry McVicar and I deserted the tour of Ford's Theater to search for a fireworks store (still legal at that time in DC) There were the outlines of footsteps on the floor where J.W.Boothe landed on the stage after leaping from the Presidential box. Jerry and I followed them right out the door and eventually found what we were looking for. We set off a handful of small skyrockets from the stern of the ship that was carrying the class members on our evening "moonlight cruise on the Potomac." We did not chance being caught so we set off everything we had at one time. The following year, our senior year, my brother's class went on that trip. They got into all kinds of trouble, and spent most of the trip on the bus. According to my brother it involved curfew violations and boys and girls fraternizing (just talking) late at night in the hotel stairwells. Of course there was other trouble too, a fistfight between chaperones and class members on the train - enough so that these trips were put on hold for a few years I think. Ah - the good old days.
