Trinity Evangelical Church and School - 1884 to Present
The church was organized in 1884 although the property was purchased back in 1839. The congregation, made up of people from St. John's Lutheran Church in Wheaton, assembled in private residences and the basement of the old Methodist Church prior to building their church in 1889.
The church school was started and stopped a couple of times. It commenced in 1889 with 20 students and grew for a period. In 1924 the school closed until 1944 when it reopened as a christian day school with classes held in the church basement.
In 1948 a Teacherage was built at 319 Sherman Street and the school building was finally built in 1957. The school remained open until 1974 when it was closed for a second time until 1999 when it reopened as a preschool/daycare facility.
This information was derived from the Trinity Lutheran Church of West Chicago website. The site does not say if the preschool/daycare is still open but is holding Sunday School classes from 2-1/2 year old to the sixth grade. Visit the Trinity website to dig a little deeper into their story. They have posted a very detailed history of the congregation and church.
