Remembering Lincoln School
While Lincoln School (the building) is no longer in existence today, several of our classmates got at least some of their elementary education there. In addition, many of us attended Bobbie Rivers dance classes in the school's gymnasium.
The building itself was built in 1921 to replace the old South Side school which had been destroyed by fire in 1919. Lincoln School was closed before the end of the 19th century and is just an empty field today.

Spent the day with Ginny Schramer (class of 62) at the West Chicago library and museum. This photo was from a Lincoln school memory book. It's the years our class would have been there. I remember being a part of the Polio vaccine trial. [April 21, 1955]. It also mentions the Dine-a-mite Restaurant. [October 30, 1958]. |
