Remembering Washington Elementary School
It's simply amazing what you can find when you go though boxes of old pictures and things that you forgot you even had!
The following note, from Terry Duber, arrived in our class PO box on August 25, 2018. Thanks Terry.
Greetings We-Go '63,
Though I will not be at the reunion later this year I still look at the website once in a while. Under REMEMBERING in the drop-down there is an entry titled "Washington Elementary" which is a class photo of the "2nd grade - 1953". I thought someone might be interested in the names of those fresh-faced eager pupils, so here they are - enclosed. Too bad I cant't remember the name of the teacher - maybe if I could see her face. Was it Mrs. Herrington? Oh well - Terry Duber In an email from Terry Duber dated 9/1/2019:
Second grade Miss Gehl and first grade Mrs. Harrington. Kindergarten Mary Martin and Carrie Witzig. |
In the fall of 1953 Turner School opened. In 1955, Gary School opened. Even with these two new elementary schools, a fifth grade class remained in the Washington School Annex. The following is a list of those students. If you have a class picture, please let us know.

Ron Anderson shed some light on this question in an email on August 25, 2024. Here's what he recalls:
I just noticed on the website that you are wondering about a class picture for the fifth grade class at Washington School Annex 1955-1956.
As far as I remember there was no class picture that year. For some reason class pictures were only taken every other year for a while. So I had a 4th grade class picture from Lincoln School and a 6th grade class picture from Gary School. I'm sure I would have purchased a class picture from Washington School if there had been one. Hope things are going well for you. Ron |
