WCCHS 60 Year Reunion - September 30, 2023!

8/27/2023

Important note:  The Holiday Inn has informed us that the "Stratford A Ballroom" is available and they have offered to let us swap rooms for no extra charge.  This new room is much larger affording us more room to move around.  It has a higher ceiling with better acoustics.  The Stratford room is closer to the main entrance, the restaurant/bar and the kitchen.  This means less walking for us and the wait staff.
Saturday afternoon and evening are reserved for our 60 Year Reunion at the Holiday Inn, 150 S. Gary Ave, Carol Stream.   If you need a room reservation, the Holiday Inn front desk is holding a block of rooms at a discounted rate until September 7th.  Call them direct at 630-665-3000 and ask for the WeGo 1963 Reunion discount using code WE6.
Earlier this year, you completed a survey and specified your meal preference(s).  Most of you wanted beef but several of you preferred chicken and very few opted for fish.  In an effort to keep everyone happy, the Holiday Inn will provide us with a choice of Beef/Chicken combo OR Salmon.  If you (and/or your guest) want the salmon, you must Contact Us BEFORE September 20, so the chef will know how many to prepare.  Don't worry about what you specified  on the survey; this is your chance to change your mind or to reconfirm you still want fish.
Our schedule for the reunion is as follows:
  • 3:00pm - We'll start gathering in the restaurant for a cash bar.
  • 5:00pm - We will migrate to the Stratford A Ballroom for Hors d'Oeuvres.
    • Swedish Meatballs
    • Chicken Quesadilla Bites & Homemade Salsa
    • Bruschetta
  • 5:00pm - 10:00pm - A cocktail waiter/waitress will begin taking drink orders (cash is highly recommended)
  • 6:00pm - A plated dinner will be served:
    • Starters: Garden salad, Minestrone soup, rolls & butter.
    • Beverage Station: Assorted canned sodas & coffee.
    • Entrée:
      • Duo of Roasted Beef Medallions and Sautéed Chicken Breast with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Roasted Medley of Vegetables
        • OR
      • Maple infused Salmon with Wild Rice and Asparagus
    • Dessert: Apple Crumb
Please note that if you (and/or your guest) want the Maple Salmon dinner, you must contact us before September 20.  Otherwise you'll get the Beef/Chicken combo.

Also, if you (or your guest) have food allergies or need to be Gluten Free or have any other dietary restrictions, please Contact Us immediately so we can alert the kitchen!
Finally, if you can bring a digital camera, we'd like copies of your pictures for our class website.  After the reunion, we'll post instructions for uploading your "reunion album".

Your Planning Committee is looking forward to seeing you in September.  Travel Safe.
Tom Aitken, Bill Nolan, Reid Simmons, Carol Wells Huck
PS:

The Planning Committee has nothing planned for Friday or for Saturday/Sunday mornings.  You're on your own!

However, it is our Alma Mater's Homecoming weekend.  So, if you're interested, here are a few suggestions :
  • Homecoming Week activities.   Most of this stuff is for the students.   We have yet to find the parade route.
  • Friday
    • 9:30am to 2:30pm - City Museum, 132 Main St, (630) 231-3376.  According to their website these are their summer hours.  Since summer ends the weekend before our reunion, these hours could change!
    • 12:00pm to 1:30pm - Food Fest.
    • 12:45pm to 1:30pm - Homecoming parade.
    • 2:00pm to 2:45pm - PowderPuff Game.
    • 5:30PM to 8:00pm - Alumni Tent, inside the stadium, will be open.
    • 6:00pm to 6:45pm - Tour of the high school's new additions.  If you're interested in this tour, contact Marc Wolfe at [email protected] for a reservation and details.
    • 7:00pm - Kickoff for the Homecoming game. The new stadium is located  where our old practice field used to be, north of Ann Street between Wood St and the EJ&E/CN tracks.  Tickets can be purchased for $5.00 at the gate which is located in the southwest corner of the new stadium, on George St near the railroad tracks.
      • A concession stand is next to the entrance gate.
      • The Alumni tent will be open until 8:00pm.  The tent should be located between the Stadium entrance and the home team bleachers.
  • Saturday
    • 9:30am to 3:30pm - City Museum, 132 Main St, (630) 231-3376.  According to their website these are their summer hours.  Since summer ends the weekend before our reunion, these hours could change!
